Netflix is not leaving any stone unturned to increase its viewership. In this age of fast life as well as attention span decreasing tremendously it is apparent that innovative ideas are going to be implemented for promotions. Taking cue from this one of the most famous entertainment portal, Netflix have come up with billboards proclaiming ‘Netflix Is a Joke’ in New York and Los Angeles.
A lot of people were taken by surprise by this kind of marketing but the notion behind this inventive idea is to popularize the increase of comedy series streamed by them. Entertainment trades, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both report the inside job, which comes as Netflix has been investing more in comedy—including specials from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle. Louis C.K., Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman and Tracy Morgan are among the other comedians who have been working with Netflix of late.
The billboards were quite successful in attracting the attention of a lot of passers by and generated quite an uproar and discussion around who was behind these adverts. Advertising through unconventional one-liners are trending these days as people are prone to find them appealing compared to the usual ones.
