Improper signage at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC)-Chunabhatti Connector and JJ Flyover is causing confusion among commuters, leading to two-wheeler riders and auto-rickshaw drivers inadvertently entering prohibited routes. As a result, violators are being fined ₹500 at exit points by traffic police.
Issues with Signage Placement
Experts blame the situation on poor coordination between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Traffic Police, resulting in inadequately placed and undersized prohibition signs. On the BKC Connector, signs are positioned on medians and at entry points but are often too small to catch drivers’ attention. Similarly, on the JJ Flyover, signs are easily overlooked by riders traveling at high speeds.
Calls for Better Solutions
Commuters have urged authorities to implement larger, more visible signs and place them at least 500 meters before entry points to prevent accidental violations. Enhanced road markings and improved communication between the BMC’s roads department and traffic police are also being demanded to address this recurring issue.
This ongoing problem highlights the need for immediate action to ensure clear communication and avoid penalizing commuters unnecessarily.
