A project aiming for installation of 521 heritage signages have been sectioned by the Heritage Cell of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and are to gain momentum in their process of installation at the Ekamra Kshetra. These will be a replacement to the previously existing signages that are often found to be a mismatch to the unique architectural style and the essence of Kalingan architecture norms.
The new signages will be of four types – directional signage, location signage, interpretation signage and location map. The interpretation signages will describe specific historical significance of the monuments along with pictorial representations. Along with the historical details about the monuments the signage will also have information on local folklore and traditions associated with the sites. The heritage cell of BDA has put in extra effort on deciding themes for each of the signage designs and made sure that they have taken inspiration from the original Kalingan style of temple architecture.
The Odisha Mining Corporation will be financing the project that is expected to require an investment of 2.75 crore. According to sources, the tendering process for heritage signage project has already been initiated and the entire project will be wrapped up within six months from the date of commencement of work.
