When it comes to advertising ideas, the sky is the limit it seems. And, enough is enough, a lot of concepts are/were being introduced in the field of advertising … on the ground. But how about advertising in the sky, on the underbelly of aeroplanes?
In a world of high fly creative thinkers, brands can now target the masses differently. With over 1400 planes daily taking off and landing from Heathrow airport alone, long-term advertising on the underbelly of planes is not a good idea, but the best idea as per the think tanks of UK based Inurface Media, a Digital signage and experiential innovators. The company will soon launch its Inurface Sky Screens project to advertise the underbelly of aeroplanes. Initially available to clients across the UK, the innovative service will allow large scale advertising on the underside of aeroplanes as they fly over UK airspace.
The new advertising project involves the installation of LED screens, up to 40m by 5m, on the underside of the body of commercial planes. Once installed this will then be able to display advertisements, visible to the public from the ground, for a certain period after take-off and before descent. This concept opens a whole new avenue of previously completely untapped exposure to brands wanting to get their messaging into the public eye, according to Inurface’s creative thinkers.
Commenting on the new concept, CEO and Founder, Josh Bunce, said: “Inurface’s launch of aeroplane advertising is an exciting next step for our business. We’ve always told clients the sky’s the limit and now that’s, quite literally, the case. Consumers are bombarded with images and advertising all day every day so we are always looking for unique and new ways of reaching our audiences, it’s a crowded space but by utilising the sky we are making the most of a previously blank canvas.”
The interface is working with some of the UK’s biggest high street brands.
With the intelligent nature of Inurface’s technology, and its ability to be managed remotely, advertising content can be changed, depending on the country they are being viewed. It can even be modified by interaction with consumers on the ground.
By partnering with Airlines, and using planes, which are already in the sky, the LED technology can run off emissions and it is environmentally less costly than it may first appear.
Although Inurface Media’s proposed digital advertising concept is new, using the underbelly space of planes, according to Wikipedia’s compilation, there exists Aerial advertising which incorporates the use of flogos, manned aircraft or drones to create, transport, or display, advertising media. The media can be static, such as a banner, logo, lighted sign or sponsorship branding. It can also be dynamic, such as animated lighted signage, skywriting, or audio.
