Gender inequality coupled with the climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It poses threats to ways of life, livelihoods, health, safety and security for women and girls around the world, according to the United Nations. So, this year’s UN International Women’s Day will be held virtually, under the theme: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

So, as a part of nationwide celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Union Minister for Women & Child Development inaugurated the International Day of Women Week, being held from 1st to 8th March 2022. Addressing the gathering of One Stop Centre ‘Sakhis’ (OSCs), officials and media personnel, Smiti Irani appreciated the sincere efforts undertaken by all 704 OSCs operating across the nation to protect women despite the threat of COVID Pandemic.

In a statement, UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous said: “Let us make this International Women’s Day a moment to recall that we have the answers not just for SDG 5 but, through the advancement of gender equality, for all 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.”
