Recently, one of the big signage producers in South India has revealed that although he does not want to invest in screen printing technology, he subcontracts the screen printing work to screen printers. He also cited an example of a big order for display boards for Vivo and Appo campaigns, requiring screen printing which he outsourced.
So, in graphics, despite wide format digital and flatbed printers, still, for mass production of advertising isplay boards, POPs/POS, etc screen printing is preferred to print on rigid substrates such as metal, MDF, glass, coir, acrylic, PVC sheets, etc.
The subject is so vast that it would take hundreds of images to “enlighten” it and on the other hand, it is not here the question of favouring machine builders or suppliers of products, whether screen printing or digital, the one more than the others. However, a question arises as to which printing process to be chosen: Screen or digital printing? It all depends on a given job and to satisfy customers’ needs says Michel Caza in his well researched and evaluated document called “Manifesto – Screen printing vs Digital printing.” This research paper was written and presented by him to the members of FESPA France and FESPA World in 2021.
Michel Caza is an international screen and graphics printing expert and a Founder Member/past President of FESPA, a trade union organisation for screen printers, digital printers and media applicators. FESPA is not new to Indian digital and signage printers. In 2005 and 2007, the association had organized exhibitions in New Delhi, covering
large format digital and screen printing technologies.
He says that a need was felt by FESPA members to create a document, elaborating the advantages and limitations of printing techniques between screen printing and digital printing. So, at the request of the FESPA France Association, Michel Caza prepared a Manifesto that includes the arguments and advice of several factors to be briefed to customers according to their print orders, to justify the choice of printing technique.
