Continuing its unique gesture, the transport authority in Singapore joined in the celebrations of the festival of lights, this year again.
Like last year, Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) yet again decorated its metro trains themed as Diwali. The coaches of the Diwali-themed train were decked up with beautiful images of garlands, earthen lamps and elephants. Other elements such as intricate Indian jewellery, the lotus and peacock – a symbol of good luck – also featured on the train coaches.
In fact, it was a fortnight before Diwali i.e. on October 15; when Singapore launched its first Diwali-themed train on its North East Line (NEL) which has a station named ‘Little India’, both the platforms of which were also decorated with colorful motifs, floral designs and rangolis.
Promoting the concept on social media, the Transport Authority greeted people by mentioning, “Celebrate the Festival of Lights with your own unique Deepavali commute this year! Our #Deepavali-themed trains and station are back with a different but equally stunning decoration – featuring majestic elephants and rangoli motifs that symbolise luck.” The themed trains ran till October-end on the North East Line and Downtown Line.
Apart from the train, Singapore government instated Diwali-themed buses as well with vibrant colours and greetings of Diwali 2017 on it. The streets of Singapore were also lit with lights.
