3D printing of channel letters offers a lot of scope for creativity and imagination, while dramatically reducing the turnaround time.

It is an era of cut-throat competition. No matter what the business is, there is bound to be some tussle over grabbing a portion of the market pie owing to the presence of innumerable players across various segments and industries. It is thus a challenging task for brands to make themselves stand out in the ever growing world of consumerism. For this, companies look for new and different ways to make themselves visible, and one of the oldest and most popular of these is channel letters or built-up letters.

These letters are used to create logos and names of companies, restaurants, health clubs etc. that can be mounted or placed strategically over a building to grab the attention of people passing by. Illuminating such signages has an even better impact, and thus, various clients have started making a greater use of them. Considering how effective this medium is, there is no doubt that signage companies are bringing in innovations in this field, both to increase productivity and reduce costs.

Israel-based Massivit 3D, the world’s leading provider of large format 3D printing solutions for visual communication and entertainment has recently conceptualised the printing of channel letters using its 3D printer. The Massivit’s 3D printing technology has made the creation of channel letters easy with quickest possible turnaround time, besides offering endless possibilities to explore.

The 3D printing process begins by creating a design file through which all aspects of these letters can be incorporated even before printing begins. It opens the door for unlimited options so that brands can print customised shapes, returns, curves and front & side textures, all in very little time and minimal cost. The Massivit 1800 Flagship 3D printer and the Massivit 1500 Exploration 3D printer enable signage companies to produce innovative, versatile 3D printed applications for advertising, retail, entertainment, events, exhibitions and interior design industries.

The Massivit 1800 Flagship 3D Printer is the first-of-its-kind to produce super-size, crowd-stopping signage, displays, and props for visual communication. Massivit 1500 Exploration Printer provides a first step into the magic of large format 3D printing for visual communication at an affordable price. It is designed to cater for print production spaces with a limited height.

These printers help create complex channel letters and logos by converting 2D images into 3D. The process involves importing the logo into 3D software and slicing the 3D file for printing. For illuminated letters, two parts have to be printed. On the front face, either vinyl sticker is pasted or it is painted as per the requirement of the client. The back part is fitted with LED strips and then both are joined to create a single, solid surface.

The printers are capable of creating textured returns, slanted returns and curves and various kinds of complex geometry. 3D printing breaks the boundaries of traditional channel letters, and gives a wide landscape to experiment on. The best part about 3D printing is that it delivers quick results as a letter can be printed in just a few hours.

Being a digital process that requires lesser human intervention, 3D printers also reduce the risk of error, injury, missed deadlines etc. It helps a company to experiment with its logo and brand name style by giving freedom to them to explore unusual shapes, curves, cursive letters, and other kinds of complex designs. It also brings in high level of accuracy and thus, leads to better client satisfaction.
