Miranda House college of Delhi University has recently set a benchmark has become the first college to install digital talking signage in the college campus to help visually-challenged students. These digital signage will help all the blind students who enter the campus to figure out their way across the campus without asking anyone’s help. These signage have not only offered students an option for moving easily around the campus but also have given the opportunity to access technology to these students.
The best part is that operating it very simple. 6-inch square scan codes at an inch’s distance from the walls have been installed. All a student needs to do is to download the customised app on his/her smartphone, then, the moment they come within three feet to the installed code, a verbal message automatically plays giving out the details regarding their location.
The app further directs them on details like how many steps should be taken to reach a particular place, when to take a turn, etc. This initiative is nothing short of a boon for these students and has gathered a lot of appreciation.
